X-Men Apocalypse Review

X-Men Apocalypse Review – (Spoilers)
The X-Men franchise (comics) have been a big part of my growing up and all the way back in 2000 Bryan Singer gave us the first taste of X-Men on the big screen. 16 years later, we have an epic style movie featuring one of the best villains from the X-Men universe Apocalypse.
One of the things I’ve always been disappointed with in the franchise of films was the triangular view points expressed in the film. You had Xaviers Dream, Magneto’s Manifesto and the Fears of the government/non-mutants. So it was nice to finally have another perspective in Apocalypse. The comics was so rich with view points I thought the movies had so much potential that it’s taken them 16 years, 7 movies before we got something new. And Apocalypse doesn’t disappoint, even though his costume was a little bit (well it was crap) but it could be overlooked as Oscar Issacs gave a great performance as en saber nur. Think I spelt that wrong??? Anyway
One of my fears for this film was over casting. X-Men the last stand was so mixed it lacked development for any character that said the core characters was given better development in this film (Apocalypse). Mystique stood out a lot, as did magneto, Xavier, beast in my opinion stood back too much I’m guessing that was a decision so that the new characters could have some lime light.
Let’s talk about the new familiar X-Men, cyclops, night crawler and Jean was great as a contrast to the other group of characters. It took me back to the first two X-men films when you saw development with the younger students of the school. More so like I’m x2: X-men United. Where you had Iceman, Rogue, Pyro with Wolverine… Actually very similar teams up with wolverine with night crawler, Jean and cyclops happens in this movie.
Oh spoiler… Wolverine is in the movie, and they got him looking proper weapon X style. Anyone familiar with the comics or animated cartoon will remember the look.
Ever since x-men First Class I felt that they finally got the x-men films on par with what they wanted to make as a posed to the limitations they had in the first few films. Still great films but Bryan Singers vision of X-Men is coming together nicely.

Quicksilver makes a welcome return. He is one of the few characters that really gives you the feel of the era your in. Kind of made me wonder where he was in X-men first class and Magneto’s story before meeting Charles.
This franchise is far from over and unlike the trilogy structure of bygone cinema days. I could see at least another three movies being made.
(Spoiler)
The end cut scene has introduced us to a name of a character that I have been saying for years to bring into the films… Sorry for the spoilers but I’ve gotta mention him.
Essex Corps appears at the end Essex being Nathaniel Essex or Mr Sinister. This makes sense given that a gambit movie is on the way and he’s connected to cyclops, Jean grey, wolverine and gambit in the comics.., also apocalypse and mystique come to think of it.
What’s great about Mr Sinister is again his view points. He wasn’t a mutant but became a mutate as like apocalypse he knew powers and immortality makes you strong. But the difference between Apocalypse and Sinisters ideology is that with Sinister he believed in perfection. Creating the ultimate mutant. Becoming the greatest and his methods to do so are incredibly brutal. Google X-Men Mutant Massacre story they did back in the 90’s
Let’s talk horsemen.

Although Angel and Psylocke had appeared before it was great to see a better version of them. Angel really felt like the depressed warren worthington 3rd I remember of which is why he turned to apocalypse in the first place. Storm was amazing too but felt like she lacked a bit more development in the middle of the films but there is alot going on in the film it’s hard to fit in such a thing.
I’m hoping that I’m the sequel we will see a number of things. Mystique and Quicksilver forming the Brotherhood of mutants with Magneto and maybe bring back Toad and Sabretooth.
X-Men having the Blue and Gold teams. The film will be set in the 90’s so makes sense to do that. Could see a team consisting of Cyclops, Jean, Storm + one more mutant and then the other team consisting of Beast, Nightcrawler, Jubilee and again another mutant.
By time of the 90’s I figure your wanna introduce younger versions of Iceman And Pyro would make sense. Maybe Rogue.
It would be actually cool if we could get to a point where we reach X-Men1 film and reintroduce Rogue and Wolverine. If Hugh could just hold on another 6 years… I know he’s retiring after the 3rd wolverine film but I really want to see the history get there.
Anyway I give x-men apocalypse 5 out of 5 as it is a brilliant film.
