Sucide Squad – Review & Character Analysis

I won’t lie to you. When it comes to DC comics I’m not the biggest of fans of the franchises they own. I’ve found the only aspect I liked about them was that when it came to villains they did them well.

So sucide squad would seem like a perfect movie for me to watch… Although the movie was entertaining I found it very flawed and messy. Especially in the writing and making some characters pretty souless. There was times I thought, you acted well up to this point and then just went weird and gave up on the character. As the movie is about an onsomble cast I thought what better way to go through and highlight good and bad points.

Dead shot.

I remember reading somewhere that Will Smith doesn’t take on movies unless he is Center stage. So watching him be a part of a larger cast and not necessarily being the lead to made me feel puzzled why did he do this film? Although I have a weird fan theory on his character and that of his wife’s character in the show Gotham. See maybe Will’s wife said how much she enjoyed playing a villain and encouraged Will to do the same. But it made me think, Jada’s character in Gotham is Fish Mooney, a criminal kingpin of sorts. It is never explained who dead shots ex-misses is but it would make a lot of sense if it was fish Mooney, that he doesn’t want his ex-wife to have custody and that Deadshots origin in the comics is from the Batman world. Despite the TVs show and movies age gap or the fact that they haven’t stated if it is connected to the DC movie universe they are constructing it could make sense. Anyway Will Smiths performance is solid in the film but you just left head scratching to why he’s not the main lead. What I thought was cool was Margot Robbie stared alongside will smith in the film Focus so was kinda cool those two characters they played in Sucide Squad kind of worked together.

Harley Quinn

In my oppinion, this actresses is becoming one of my favourite current actresses to watch. She’s always played interesting roles wether Wolf Of Wall Street, Focus or now Sucide Squad, she has range. It’s the first time for the character to appear on big screen and I think she nailed it.

Captain Boomerang

I was really hyped by the idea that the actor was told to find his inner bastard. But what I saw on screen was like almost the PG version of him. I don’t believe this to be the actors fault. Because you could tell he fully embodied the character but to me I just felt, (did they cut out his best scenes he filmed to save running time of the movie) I’m really looking forward to the DVDs release cause I wanna see if there was deleted scenes of the character.

Diablo

The only character that seem to have a soul in the film. Which I felt was quite a good contrasts. Very well performed, his character had a great arch.

Joker

This had the most hype, but I feel I was left thinking wtf this isn’t the joker, then other times I thought spot on. See I loved how crazy he was in the film but they kinda made him out as a gangster club owner Joker. To me the joker was never that materialistic, I mean owning a fun fair full of acid is more how I imagine him. Sitting in a nightclub with his crew conducting business… Seriously it was confusing. You could argue different take on the Joker, but previous actors have given us the unhinged joker in the similar world and I just thought yeah I see where you was going but nothing really memorable about it because you put too many scenes that just contradicted how you view the joker. Which is a shame because lato did a good job, but it was the writing that let him down.

Rick Flag

I’m not familiar with the comics too much to know who this character is, but robocop actor did kind of leave a weird thought in my head. Here’s a guy who wants to save his girl, but he is the best of the best. So why was he so reluctant too use them when if he was the best of the best he could of took them down. Just didn’t seem like he had thought his mission through properly.

Katana

I’m sorry but I just felt she was unnecessary for the film. Rick flags body gaurd? Because his entire army of solders wouldn’t of kept him safe?

Enchantress

When I watched this I thought when she was playing the human form she was a great actor but as enchantress it was like… So the main villain is a performance art street artist? Weird body movements and very weird looking, when I first saw her I thought cool she’s creepy like a character from a modern horror supernatural film, but it just became awkward and weird later on.

Killer croc

Muscle basically – kind of interesting but wasn’t really used much.

Slip knot

He was in every poster, yet he’s basically a 5 minute cameo – I felt sorry for the actor.

Amanda Waller

Again don’t really know her from the comics but she played the character well .
Well there it is that’s my review
